Why Brazil

Rather than opening a single flagship office, OpenAI’s expansion is aimed at supporting local talent directly and adapting its products to regional needs — localisation, not just market entry. It follows a broader pattern among AI labs of investing directly in regional developer ecosystems rather than treating international growth purely as a distribution problem.

What’s Planned

The expansion covers three areas:

• Developer engagement: workshops, hackathons and direct support for Brazilian developers building with OpenAI’s tools.
• Business partnerships: working with local companies to deploy AI in agriculture, finance and healthcare — three sectors OpenAI is naming explicitly rather than a generic “every industry” pitch.
