Looker Dashboard Agents: Chat Your Way to Smarter BI Insights
Quick answer
Looker's new dashboard agents let you chat with your BI data using natural language, turning static dashboards into interactive conversations. Configure, trust, and explore—all without leaving your workflow.
Dashboards have long been the go-to for data insights, but let’s face it—they’re about as interactive as a swamp on a still day. You stare at the charts, but ask a follow-up question? Forget it. That’s where Looker dashboard agents come in, turning your static dashboards into conversational data buddies. Now in preview, these agents let you chat with your BI data using natural language, right inside the dashboard. No more pinging your data analyst for every little query.
Interactive Agent-Led Investigations
Instead of just staring at tiles, you can now click the Gemini icon and start a conversation. Ask questions like “What were our top-selling products last quarter?” and get contextual insights, complete with charts and explanations. The agent knows your current filters and cross-filters, so answers are spot-on. If it needs more data, it dives into underlying Explores to fetch the goods.
Tailor the Agent to Your Business
Data analysts can configure the agent with natural-language instructions on top of Looker’s semantic layer. This means the agent understands your unique business logic and speaks your team’s language. It’s like having a capybara guide in the swamp—friendly, smart, and always ready to help you navigate the data channels without getting lost.
Inherited Trust and Transparency
Trust is key in any AI system. The Looker dashboard agent shows its work—intermediate reasoning, referenced tiles, and applied filters—so you know exactly how it arrived at an answer. Plus, it respects Looker’s governance model, so users only see data they’re authorized to access. No caiman-sized surprises here.
We’re also working on iframe embedding, so you can bring these agents into any portal or app. To get started, admins can enable “Chat with Dashboard” in Gemini settings for Looker version 26.08.11 and later. For more details, check out the support docs.
