Google Cloud’s Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform just got a serious upgrade. If you’ve been building agents that need to remember context, run for days, or play nice with enterprise security, this one’s for you. Let’s wade into the new features.
Long-Running Agents with Better Memory
Two big features are now generally available: Agent Memory Bank and Agent Runtime. Memory Bank lets you define structured schemas to automatically extract and maintain conversation context—so your agent remembers user preferences and past decisions across sessions. Runtime, on the other hand, can run agents continuously for up to 7 days, perfect for multi-step workflows like sales sequences or IT incident response.
Security and Governance at Scale
Three new tools help you secure and centralize your agent ecosystem:
- Agent Identity – A native IAM type that enforces least-privilege access, mitigates token theft, and provides non-repudiable auditing.
- Agent Gateway – A central control point for granular access controls, with inline protection against prompt injection and data leakage.
- Agent Registry – A single pane of glass to catalog all agents across your org, making it easy to find and reuse existing agents.
Observability and Evaluation
You can now monitor and evaluate agent performance in production with Agent Evaluation (online monitors for degradation and drift) and Agent Observability (end-to-end tracing and dashboards). The same metrics you use during development are used in production, so there’s no gap between build and ship.
Customers Weigh In
AT&T is using Memory Bank to let sales agents resume conversations after a gap. Best Buy sees Agent Identity as key to governance. Commerzbank is evaluating Agent Registry and Gateway for compliance. Liberty Global calls them “game-changers” for multi-entity environments. WellSky uses the Registry to enforce compliance policies.
