The one thing to know: bank vs fintech (EMI)

Licensed banks protect your money with a Deposit Guarantee Scheme — up to €100,000 per depositor. E-money institutions (EMIs) — Wise, Airwallex, Paysera, Vivid, Qonto, Finom, Genome, Bankera, 3S Money, Wamo, Holvi — only safeguard funds (segregated at partner banks): solid for day-to-day cash, but no €100k guarantee. The smart setup for most small businesses is a hybrid — a fintech for operations and a deposit-guaranteed bank for reserves and cash. Full detail in the main guide.
